{Ambedo} Life Finds A Way

As it is May already, and I haven't posted anything about incubating eggs, you might have noticed that chicks aren't in my plans for this year. I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed with 4 young roosters and 3 (almost) yearling peafowl right now, so attempting to hatch more just seemed like I was begging the Universe to send more roosters on over.

Welp. Turns out Epiphany decided to take matters into her own hands. She had been hiding a clutch of eggs for maybe a week and started sitting on them last Sunday (which is when I discovered she was broody). This is surprising to me because Pip and Mazikeen stopped laying eggs shortly after Mina died, they've never been consistent layers, and they've never gone broody to this degree.

When I say "to this degree", I mean dinosaur noises, every feather ruffled, full on sitting for days. I think Pip went broody for maybe an hour when she was a pullet, and that was it. Neither her nor Maze ever seemed interested in sitting on a nest of eggs again.

Bigger surprise: Every single one of those eggs has started to develop. All 8. This was heartbreaking for me because I'm a softie. I really want to see a bunch of tiny chicks following one of my hens around. That would be so adorable. I'm going to have to take the eggs away from her and see if she's tough to stop being broody.

Life. Seriously.
